The Freshmen Arrive
Oh my gosh, guys. I've been at school for the past week to help with the orientation of the new students. That includes freshmen and transfer students. It's been a crazy week of planning,, meetings, running around, and pretending to like some certain person who happened to be my awful roommate from last year.
So..with 5 days of no sleep under my belt, I got up bright and early yesterday to help the newbies check in. I, with the other staff members, spent the next 5 hours sitting at a check-in desk. After that, we performed a skit to introduce ourselves to the new students. Finally, we played games and had ice cream.
Today has been just as crazy. We started as early as yesterday and got right to it. I had to drive 30 minutes to pick up one of the rental 13-passanger vans. When I got back, I had to devour lunch in order to drive people to our "Save the River" service project. Later we had another meeting. Then I had to drive students to where we were having dinner.
Soccer team grabs a naked guy

This happened a couple of weeks ago, but I lost it in the rush of news.
Apparently an American Airlines flight from Boston to Los Angeles was diverted to Oklahoma City on July 18, 2008 after a passenger stripped nude and later tried to open an emergency exit door. Members of the New England Revolution of Major League Soccer were among those who grabbed the passenger and subdued him before he could get the door open.
There are strange people in this world.

Time-out for brain recovery
Apparently, healing from sports injuries to the head take a little more time than expected. Well, duh.
The biggest problem, in my opinion, is coaches failing to resist a steady push from players and parents.
Well said. Coaches, are you strong enough?

A Little Morning Update
So I finally got my award letter from school. It's a huge relief to know what I can and ... can't afford. After all that stress, though, I've still decided to hold off on getting a car. I'd be in a better financial position next summer. Seems like the way to go.
Gotta run a kid to summer school.

The Arkansas Lady Razorbacks are no longer "ladies"
Did you see this article?
Arkansas athletics officials: Time to drop the prefix
It seems that new Arkansas Athletic Director, Jeff Long, has decided that, "We're all 'Razorbacks," and has dropped the word "Lady" in conjunction with its women's sports teams. Great news, I think.
Most women playing sports on a college level play as hard as their male counterparts. The gender designation always seemed to me to be a way to remind female athletes that they are not as important to the college or university as the male teams in the eyse of the administration.
A few other universitys have made this change in the last few years. Let's hope it catches on more quickly.
Am I Alone??? and more
So we've all learned by now that I'm not very good at writing regularly. Well, sorry about that. I'm like that with phone calls and e-mails too. I stay way to busy to have time to do all this stuff. I do these when I have the time and the energy at the same time.
I told you I'd tell you about camp. Not much to tell really. 9 of us went. We ate terrible food, climbed .25 mile up hill with 3 flights of stairs every time we wanted to go back to our campsite, and did some cool stuff like whitewater rafting and canoeing, caving and rock climbing, and low and high ropes courses. It was a good trip, but I don't think I'll be going to camp next year. Since I didn't have a ob this summer, I really, really need to have one next summer.
Since I have a moment now between driving kids to summer school and going to the dentist, I'm going to take a second to share a story. My goal, honestly, is to know that I'm not alone in this situation, that it happens to other people too...
A New Phase for Soccer Chica and soccerchica.com
Hey there, all!
I'm still learning my way around the new site. I really like the layout. We had to take off the AIM application; it was slowing things down a lot.
Alright, so now that most of the transformation of soccerchica.com is finished, I'm going to pick up where I left off. I'll get back to writing every now and then.
I'm leaving for camp tomorrow morning. I won't be back until Saturday evening. I'll write about when I get back. I probably won't have much else to say until then.
See you all in a week!

Summer at Last!
Now that I'm home, I've jumped right back into all that I do here. I spent the weekend staffing a camp for Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts. Today, I start back at my job from last summer. I have CPR training this week Next week, I fly to Texas to visit family. I'll attend camp in June. Then back to school in August.
Sitting in front of my TV in my PJs is probably the most amazing thing I've done since last August. I appreciate it so much more this summer than last summer. Wow.
Don't forget to enjoy your summer!!!

AIM on SoccerChica.com
Hey everyone!
I mentioned in a past entry that my AIM screenname is SoccerChicaFan. Well, now you don't have to download AIM to be able to talk to me!!!
If you look to the top of the page, in the right sidebar, you'll notice a big blue box. You type in that box, and I'll get it on my AIM. We can chat, even though you aren't on AIM and I'm not on soccerchica.com. Kind of cool, huh?
Well, that's all I have for now. I'm swamped with this being the last week before Finals Rest Week (the week before finals when professors aren't allowed to have any assignments due). Then finals. Then summer. 3 months of nothing. Sweet.
