The Freshmen Arrive

Oh my gosh, guys. I've been at school for the past week to help with the orientation of the new students. That includes freshmen and transfer students. It's been a crazy week of planning,, meetings, running around, and pretending to like some certain person who happened to be my awful roommate from last year.

So..with 5 days of no sleep under my belt, I got up bright and early yesterday to help the newbies check in. I, with the other staff members, spent the next 5 hours sitting at a check-in desk. After that, we performed a skit to introduce ourselves to the new students. Finally, we played games and had ice cream.

Today has been just as crazy. We started as early as yesterday and got right to it. I had to drive 30 minutes to pick up one of the rental 13-passanger vans. When I got back, I had to devour lunch in order to drive people to our "Save the River" service project.  Later we had another meeting. Then I had to drive students to where we were having dinner.

A Little Morning Update

So I finally got my award letter from school. It's a huge relief to know what I can and ... can't afford. After all that stress, though, I've still decided to hold off on getting a car. I'd be in a better financial position next summer. Seems like the way to go.

Gotta run a kid to summer school.

Am I Alone??? and more

So we've all learned by now that I'm not very good at writing regularly. Well, sorry about that. I'm like that with phone calls and e-mails too. I stay way to busy to have time to do all this stuff. I do these when I have the time and the energy at the same time.

I told you I'd tell you about camp. Not much to tell really. 9 of us went. We ate terrible food, climbed .25 mile up hill with 3 flights of stairs every time we wanted to go back to our campsite, and did some cool stuff like whitewater rafting and canoeing, caving and rock climbing, and low and high ropes courses. It was a good trip, but I don't think I'll be going to camp next year. Since I didn't have a ob this summer, I really, really need to have one next summer.

Since I have a moment now between driving kids to summer school and going to the dentist, I'm going to take a second to share a story. My goal, honestly, is to know that I'm not alone in this situation, that it happens to other people too...

A New Phase for Soccer Chica and soccerchica.com

Hey there, all!

I'm still learning my way around the new site. I really like the layout. We had to take off the AIM application; it was slowing things down a lot.

Alright, so now that most of the transformation of soccerchica.com is finished, I'm going to pick up where I left off. I'll get back to writing every now and then.

I'm leaving for camp tomorrow morning. I won't be back until Saturday evening. I'll write about when I get back. I probably won't have much else to say until then.

See you all in a week!

Summer at Last!

Summer is here, and not a moment too soon. After days of exams, I was ready to move out of my dorm room and head home. Looking back on my first year of college, it was everything that I expected it to be and more. It was stressful but I had a lot of fun along the way.

Now that I'm home, I've jumped right back into all that I do here. I spent the weekend staffing a camp for Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts. Today, I start back at my job from last summer. I have CPR training this week Next week, I fly to Texas to visit family. I'll attend camp in June. Then back to school in August.

Sitting in front of my TV in my PJs is probably the most amazing thing I've done since last August. I appreciate it so much more this summer than last summer. Wow.

Don't forget to enjoy your summer!!!

AIM on SoccerChica.com

Hey everyone!

I mentioned in a past entry that my AIM screenname is SoccerChicaFan. Well, now you don't have to download AIM to be able to talk to me!!!

If you look to the top of the page, in the right sidebar, you'll notice a big blue box. You type in that box, and I'll get it on my AIM. We can chat, even though you aren't on AIM and I'm not on soccerchica.com. Kind of cool, huh?

Well, that's all I have for now. I'm swamped with this being the last week before Finals Rest Week (the week before finals when professors aren't allowed to have any assignments due). Then finals. Then summer. 3 months of nothing. Sweet.

Can Summer Really Be Here?

With only 4 weeks until the collegiate summer begins, I struggle to believe that summer is an existing season this year. It's now April and I still have to pull out the winter coat 4 days a week. I mean, instead of April showers, I'm seeing April sleet. That's just not right. What's up?

I'm sick of freezing temperatures, wooly socks, and frost. Bring on the sweat, tank tops, and pollen! (When an asthmatic begs for pollen, you know she's desperate.)

I feel better now, so I think I'm going to go do another paper. Oh, joy...

By the way! I got AIM!!! My screenname is SoccerChicaFan. If you ever get bored or curious as to what I'm like outside outside of my blog, just shoot me a message. I'd be glad to get to know some of my readers!

Sweet and Powerful - Soccer Gear for Girls

I came across this site that sells sports stuff specifically for girls. It's pretty cool, and they have a lot of nice items. For instance...

We have a girl on our team who can't seem to stay off the ground. She's always going in for the tackle and never backs down. Her ankles take such a beating. These would be great for the serious tacklers of any team.

Check out the rest of their website here.

What Can Happen When You Follow the 5 Alternatives

Alright, so I gave you a list of 5 Great Alternatives to Writing a College Paper. Well, I used a few of them. Here's what happens when you take the Alternatives too seriously...

I had to leave for a trip at 2 on Friday. The English paper I had been putting off had to be e-mailed by midnight. Unfortunately, traveling meant no internet connection, which meant that I had to send in my paper before 2. Because I had been making use of the 5 Alternatives, I had not finished the paper when I went to my 1:00 class - English... I actually had the nerve to finish it in her class. Except that I still couldn't get it finished before 2. The final result was a great paper with a half-completed works cited page. (Not finishing a works cited page means that some sources were not given credit for thier ideas. That is defined as plagiarism, which is illegal.)

The verdict?

A New Type of World Cup

I found this really interesting. I'd never heard of anything like this. To see this organization reach out on such a global level (with soccer no less) is amazing.

Read it: Homeless World Cup

Can you imagine??? I would like to meet the person who came up with this idea. The author of the comment obviously missed a few major points: 1) This a MINISTRY. It's supposed to reach out to those who need help. Duh! and 2) This is truly imporving lives. It's not just making homeless people comfortable; it's about encouraging them to better their lives for themselves. Who ever wrote that comment was only thinking on the surface level and really needs to have some compassion for the less fortunate.
